Danube River Cruise Budapest Itinerary
DAY 1 - BUDAPEST
Arrival on board the ship in Budapest from 5pm and set sail for Mohács. Dinner is followed by an evening of entertainment on board as you continue to sail through the night.
DAY 2 - MOHACS - OSIJEK - BELGRADE
Arriving early morning in Mohács, pass through customs and continue to Osijek. Lunch on board and arrive about 3pm in Osijek. Optional excursion of the Upper Town including the 18th century fortress (magnificent panoramic views of the river) and the main square. Return back to the ship in time for dinner and set sail towards Belgrade.
DAY 3 - BELGRADE - ORSOVA
Arrive at Belgrade at breakfast time. Optional excursion of the town; located at the meeting of the Danube and Sava rivers, the town has created its own cultural identity, built on a mix of Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman and Slavic cultures. Returning on board for lunch, after which the evening is free for you to explore the Serbian capital. An optional coach transfer will be organised to take you to and from the town. After dinner entertainment is a Serbian folk evening on board. Set sail around 9pm to Turnu Severin.
DAY 4 - ORSOVA (ROMANIA) - THE IRON GATES - NOVI SAD (SERBIA)
After the buffet breakfast on board you arrive around 8am at Turnu Severin. Optional excursion to visit the town, which was modernised after the treaty of Andrinopoulos. Visit the ancient Roman town of Drobeta as well as the bridges which take you high over the Danube dating from the Roman era and finally head to the Iron gates hydroelectric power station. After some tasting of local wines return to the ship to carry on cruising through the narrow pass of the Iron gates between the Carpathians and the Balkans. An evening on board as you travel through the night to Novi Sad.
DAY 5 - NOVI SAD - ILOK - VUKOVAR - MOHACS
Arrive into Novi Sad early morning, buffet breakfast is served onboard. Optional excursion to the Orthodox Monastery at Krusedol. Sail to Sremi Karlovci, a quiet town of some 9000 people living on the banks of the Danube. Sail to Novi Sad. The town is in the southern part of the Great Plain and is populated with a vast array of ethnic cultures and is the second largest town in Serbia due to its population. Head back to the boat for lunch on board and cruise to Ilok. Optional excursion to the medieval cities of Ilok and Vukovar. Evening dinner and entertainment and sail during the night to Mohács.
DAY 6 - MOHACS - KALOCSA
Arrive in Mohács and pass through customs. Breakfast on board followed by optional excursion to Pécs. Visiting the main square and the cathedral, the town is set at the foot of the Mecsek Mountains and is over 2000 years old, with a Mediterranean climate and ambience. Then return on board and continue the cruise to Kalocsa. Arrive at about 4.30pm and optional excursion into the Puszta, also known as the ‘great Hungarian plain’, immersing yourselves in tradition and folklore as you watch the traditional horse show. Dinner on board and set sail for Budapest, continuing the journey through the night.
DAY 7 - BUDAPEST
Arrive into Budapest in the early hours and breakfast on board. Optional excursion to discover Budapest. The Danube carves the city in two with Buda with its hills and valleys and Pest which lies on the flat terrain of the Great Plain; the panoramic views across the river are just beautiful. After lunch on board, there is the option to have the afternoon free to yourself or there is the optional excursion to Gödöllö Castle, the largest Baroque castle in Hungary. Back on board for dinner. After dinner optional excursions to see the beautiful city of Budapest at night.
DAY 8 - BUDAPEST
After your breakfast on board, disembark at 9am and transfer to the airport for your flight home.
Please note: for reasons of navigational safety, the captain and crew of the boat may decide to modify the cruise itinerary, which is beyond Orbital Travel's control.
